What is Power Player in IPL 2020, Power Player Concept, Rules in IPL

There will be a lot of changes to be seen in the Indian Premier League next year. The increase in the number of teams with the exchange of players will be a boon for the cricket lovers. In the 2020 season, a new concept of 'Power Player' will be implemented. For this, the competing teams will have to announce their 15-member team before the match. In this article, we will know - what is Power Player in IPL 2020, Power Player Concept, Rules in IPL.

What is Power Player in IPL 2020?

The 'Power Player' is a special idea where the IPL teams will declare 15 players rather than last 11 and a player 'can be substituted' at either the fall of a wicket or toward the finish of the over any-time in the game.

According to information received by the BCCI officials of the Indian Cricket Board, the power player concept has been approved. "Under the new rules, each team will have to declare a team of 15 players instead of 11 players before the match," the official added.

Accordingly, the replacement player may be taken down the field after the fall of a wicket or at a later stage of the match. It is an attempt to implement this concept in the IPL, which will be used in the upcoming Mushtaq Ali Cup.

The power player rules will only add to the excitement of the match. This will keep the audience more engaged. To give an example, the team needs 20 runs in 5 balls and for some reason in the dugout, an aggressive player like Andre Russell, who has not been placed in the final 11, will be allowed to bat according to the power player rules.

Likewise, an orderly bowler can be played at a crucial moment as needed. With the replacement player, the team can change the picture of the match.

A few months back, a senior executive of the IPL Steering Council planned to team up with the traditional XI. It mentions 'power player'. Accordingly, this player can go to the field for batting or bowling when he is not in the final 11.

The BCCI president Sourav Ganguly will take the decision on whether to give a chance to an alternate player at a governing council meeting in Mumbai on Wednesday. "A final decision will be taken by the BCCI president," said a senior BCCI official.

Ganguly will hold discussions with the chairman and other office bearers of the IPL governing council, but many things have to be considered. Ganguly was not available to comment. Sources said, 'There are many doubts as to the matter, as this will change the basic structure of cricket.'

The source further said, 'No decision has been made yet. We have no idea that such a change will take place in the Mushtaq Ali tournament with four days remaining.

One group of IPL governing councils is keen to see the impact of this change in the Syed Mushtaq Ali Trophy, which starts on November 7. According to one group, it will benefit the IPL franchise of older players.
